The letter credit repair companies charge $99 a month to send. Free.

Built by the FCRA attorneys who sue the credit bureaus for a living. Answer a few questions and get a personalized dispute letter, in your own words, ready to print and mail.

Which bureau is reporting the error?

More than one, or not sure? No problem - you can pick all three inside.

Same legal right. Very different price.

Congress already gave you the right to dispute for free under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Credit repair companies just charge you rent on it.

Why trust this tool

Built by the FCRA attorneys other lawyers learn from

Consumer Litigation Associates has spent 30+ years suing Equifax, TransUnion, and Experian on behalf of consumers. This generator encodes what we have learned from thousands of disputes - the elements a letter needs, the demands that matter, and the paper trail that holds up in court.

  • Testified before Congress on the FCRA in 2003, 2007, and 2008
  • Tens of millions recovered for consumers, including a $50M class settlement
  • 2025 Vern Countryman Award - the highest honor in consumer law
  • Leadership roles at NACA and the National Consumer Law Center
On contingency - no fee unless we win

If they ignore this letter, you may have a case.

A proper written dispute is the legal prerequisite to suing a credit bureau. When a bureau mishandles it, the FCRA lets you pursue damages - and we take those cases on contingency. You pay nothing out of pocket, and consultations are free. The FCRA even makes the defendant pay your attorneys' fees when you win.

  • Writes in your voice - every letter is unique, not a template the bureaus will flag and dismiss

  • Provides the correct mailing address for Equifax, TransUnion, and Experian
  • Gives you a downloadable PDF ready to print, sign, and mail

Your Right to Dispute

Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, you have the right to dispute any information on your credit report that you believe is inaccurate. The bureau must reinvestigate within 30 days.

If the information cannot be verified, the bureau must correct or delete it - and notify anyone who received the inaccurate report.

And the dispute does more than request a fix: under the FCRA, no legal claim against a bureau exists until you have disputed. If they mishandle a proper dispute, that failure becomes the foundation of your case.

Why a Written Dispute?

Online disputes through the bureaus' websites often limit what you can say and leave no paper trail. A certified letter creates a legal record - proof of delivery and a clock that starts ticking.

Our tool generates a letter in your own words, not a form template that bureaus routinely dismiss.

Before you start

Is it really free?

Yes. No account, no credit card, no trial that converts to a subscription. This tool is published by a consumer protection law firm as a public resource - the same letter structure our attorneys teach other lawyers to use.

Do I need my credit report first?

It helps a lot. You can pull all three reports free at AnnualCreditReport.com - see our step-by-step guide. You will want the exact account names and numbers in front of you.

Will disputing hurt my credit score?

No. Filing a dispute is a legal right under the FCRA and is not a factor in any credit scoring model. If the bureau corrects or deletes an error, your score can only benefit.

Is this legal advice?

No. The tool drafts a letter based on your answers; it is not reviewed by an attorney and using it does not create an attorney-client relationship. If the bureaus mishandle your dispute, that is when you talk to a lawyer - the consultation is free, and FCRA cases are taken on contingency, so you pay nothing unless you win.

Ready to dispute the error?

It takes about five minutes. You'll need your credit report handy.

CreditDispute.com is a free informational tool. Using this site does not create an attorney-client relationship. The dispute letters generated by this tool are based on your inputs and are not reviewed by an attorney before you receive them.
